General Questions

What is FilmClick?
FilmClick is an online film community designed for filmmakers and people who love to watch films. FilmClick offers an alternative to other video hosting sites by promoting filmmaking and original storytelling.

I’m a filmmaker, why should I use FilmClick?
If you have completed your film, we can host your film for free and allow you to distribute it online. You will have complete control over film pages relating to your work. You can also enter in cast/crew information and interact with fans, people you’ve worked with, or future collaborators.

While in preproduction, our production planner tools allow you to maintain an online, centralized location for up-to-date information regarding crew lists, call sheets, contact information, etc.

I am an actress/actor/crewmember, why should I use FilmClick?
FilmClick serves as an online resource to post your credits, network with other filmmakers, and locate new productions. The credits page is a free way of posting your credits online to keep a record for your work, as well as for those interested in hiring you. This could be used by production companies to find and contact you for a future project without the hassle of you maintaining a personal website.

I love watching films, why should I use FilmClick?
FilmClick is the destination for filmmakers to post original work. Because we offer filmmakers many useful services, we attract cutting edge films, so you as a viewer can have access to high-quality, original work.

If you especially like a film, you can contact the filmmakers or engage in discussions with other fans. You can also share the film with friends or display it as your spotlight film.

What behavior is prohibited on FilmClick?
We try to keep a friendly atmosphere, which means using common sense. Although we try to control speech as little as possible, there will be times when people step over the line. The following actions may bring possible suspensions:

-Severe name-calling
-Threatening other users
-Continuous harassment
-Racial slurs
-Posting personal information without permission

How can I contribute to the FilmClick community?
Please report if you see someone posting material that classifies as prohibited, copyrighted, or overtly offensive material. We rely on the audience to help maintain a safe and friendly environment.

Also, encourage filmmakers to post their work and try to maintain a positive, constructive tone. Users may be new to filmmaking and can use advice.

Viewing a Film (Player Issues)

Why can’t I see the film?
Films are shown in flash media so you need to download the latest Adobe Flash Player. It is free and available at http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/

Why is the film blurry?
When a video is uploaded, it has to be compressed into flash and there is a slight drop off of quality in the process. The film is also condensed in size to make the file smaller so that it will stream faster. To ensure top quality, try to compress as little as possible before uploading.

Why did the film stop playing?
When a film starts in the player, it needs to load onto your computer. This is largely affected by the speed of your Internet connection. We highly recommend using a broadband connection.

Do I have to be a member to watch a film?
No. You will always be able to view films without becoming a member. There are perks to being a member, like being able to make comments, reviews, social networking, and uploading your own projects.

Can I download the film to be viewed later?
For now, no. However, this feature may be available in the future.

Can I use the film on my website?
Yes. You can copy the embedding code next to a film and insert it into your own website.

What does saving a film do?
When you save a film, you can view them later, sort them, and recommend to others. Only you can view your saved films unless you add them to your spotlight.

What is the spotlight?
Spotlight films are films you want to show on your profile page or group page. These are your favorite films you want your friends and visitors to see.

General Film Questions

Who can submit films?
You must own or hold the rights to the film, and clearances for things in your film, such as the music. You must also be 18 years of age, or 13 years of age with a parent’s permission. You also must not have allowed any other company exclusive Internet rights. If you meet all these conditions, then you can submit your film.

What if I am a student?
You still need to have all the rights and clearances for your film. Also, some schools have the rights to any student’s films, so be sure to check if that would apply.

How can I submit my film?
For now, the only way is to upload it through the website. We plan to accept films via mail eventually. If you want to send it in as a computer file (not as a dvd/vcd-player ready dvd/cd), you can send that to our mailing address. It takes longer to upload, however.

Are there limitations to the file size of the film I submit?
The max size that an uploaded file can be is 2 gigs. Anything bigger, would have to be sent in, or made into shorter episodes.

Are there limitations to the length of the film I submit?
No. Make it as long as you want.

What file formats does FilmClick accept?
FilmClick accepts files in the following formats:
.avi, .dv, .mov, .qt, .mpeg, .mpg, .mp4, .3gp, .asf, and .wmv.

Can I change the settings for my film?
Yes. Go to your Profile, click on the Films tab, choose which film for which you want to edit the settings, and then make any setting changes for your film.

Can I remove my film from FilmClick?
Yes. Go to your Profile, click on the Films tab, choose which film you wish to remove, and then click delete.

Can I make my film private?
Yes. You can choose to set your film to private in that film’s settings.

What if another film has the same title as mine?
Multiple films can have the same title.

Why was my film removed?
Your film may have been removed for copyright or content issues.

Credits/Promos Pages

What is the Credits page for?
When a film is uploaded, a Credits page is created. Here, the uploader can fill in information for those who want to learn more about the film such as cast and crew listings. It also is a place for fans to discuss and review a film.

Do I have to fill in the Credits pages?
No, but it is a good way to reward those who really like your film and want to learn more about it. It also allows crewmembers to track how it’s doing easier.

What is the title image? How do I add one?
The title image is the title shot which will be seen for your film in searches. This is optional. If you don’t upload one, a frame will be pulled from your film to be shown. You add a title image during upload or in the film’s settings.

How do I stop people from trolling my pages?
If people are making disparaging/offensive/nonsensical/misinformed comments that you disagree with on your film credits page, you have the option of deleting comments as opposed to waiting for an admin to help. This gives you better, faster, and more control over what you want displayed for your film. You can also disable comments.
